IPUMS and the NSO cooperate on data preservation and dissemination.
- Preservation: state-of-the-art archival data storage technology and procedures
- Processing: microdata standardization and harmonization by social science professionals, sampling and confidentialization support provided where needed
- Documentation: production of detailed documentation, including custom IPUMS user guides as well as access to original metadata
- Dissemination: user-friendly web-based data access portal, applicant screening, technical support to researchers
