MOSAIC Data
IPUMS has partnered with the Mosaic project to host data from surviving historical census microdata sets from Europe and beyond, focused on the recovery of non-centralized and partial censuses. Data for the Mosaic project is provided by its partners, which include an international team of historians, demographers, economists and other researchers from institutions in Europe and beyond.

Over the years, the Mosaic team has identified, gathered, harmonized, and distributed data from historical censuses. Although data from the Mosaic project are not yet fully integrated into IPUMS, the Mosaic team has coded variables in Mosaic datasets to align with standards in the historical data files of IPUMS International. Records are distributed in the same integrated format, so that historical comparisons can be made across time and space.
