Description
GEO1_MA identifies the household's region within Morocco from 2014 to present. Regions are the first level administrative units of the country. GEO1_MA is spatially harmonized to account for political boundary changes across census years. Some detail is lost in harmonization. A GIS map (in shapefile format), corresponding to GEO1_MA can be downloaded from the GIS Boundary files page in the IPUMS International web site.

Comparability — General
A reorganization of geography in Morocco occurred in 2014, changing the number of regions from 16 to 12. GEO1ALT_MA reflects regions in Morocco in from 1982 to 2004.
The entirety of Dakhla-Oued Ed Dahab, the vast majority of Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra, and part of Guelmim-Oued Noun were situated within the disputed territory of Western Sahara.
