Description

GEO2_IR2006 identifies the household's sub-province within Iran in 2006. Sub-provinces are the second level administrative units of the country, after divisions. A GIS map (in shapefile format), corresponding to GEO2_IR2006 can be downloaded from the GIS Boundary files page in the IPUMS International web site.

Comparability — General

Sub-provinces with populations less than 20,000 (based on the most recent sample year) were regionalized (combined) with neighboring sub-provinces within the same province to create units with populations greater than 20,000.

The following sub-provinces were combined for confidentiality purposes:

• Ashtian is combined with Tafresh.
• Abumusa is combined with Qeshm.
