Most IPUMS data transformations are performed using variable harmonization tables that specify how each value in the source data is recoded. Some variables also require programming logic in addition to the harmonization table. The harmonization documents for this variable are:

Description
GEO2_US2020 identifies the household's PUMA (Public Use Microdata Area) within United States in 2020. PUMAs are the second level administrative units of the country for census purposes, after states. A GIS map (in shapefile format), corresponding to GEO2_US2020 can be downloaded from the GIS Boundary files page in the IPUMS International web site. The GIS boundary files for GEO2_US2020 are based on the U.S. Census Bureauâs 2010 TIGER/Line files.
Note that the 2020 sample uses experimental weights to correct for the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the 2020 data collection.
