Description

GEO2_RW1991 indicates the household's township within Rwanda in 1991. Townships are the second level administrative units of the country, after provinces. A GIS map (in shapefile format), corresponding to GEO2_RW1991 can be downloaded from the GIS Boundary files page in the IPUMS International web site

Comparability — General

There are no comparability issues for GEO2_RW1991.

However, before 2002, Rwanda was divided into prefectures that were organized to form 106 districts in 2002. The districts were reorganized again in 2012 to form thirty districts with entirely different boundaries.
