Description
GEO2_MX2000 identifies the household’s municipality within Mexico in 2000. Municipalities are the second level administrative units of the country, after states. A GIS map (in shapefile format), corresponding to GEO2_MX2000 can be downloaded from the GIS Boundary files page in the IPUMS International web site.

Comparability — General
The 2000 Mexico sample is a stratified cluster design; stratified geographically by municipality and urban area. The sample weights are designed to yield proper counts at the state level, but the clustering of the underlying data may affect their representativeness at the municipality level.
