GEO1_ PS2017 identifies the household's governorate within Palestine in 2017. Governorates are the first level administrative units of the country. A GIS map (in shapefile format), corresponding to GEO1_ PS2017 can be downloaded from the GIS Boundary files page in the IPUMS International web site.

Comparability — General
All the units that make up Palestine are in dispute with Israel. The disputed areas are a result of the Third Arab–Israeli War in 1967. With the exception of No Man's Land along the Israel/Palestine border, which is coded as 99, the areas referred to as "Judea, Samaria, and Gaza Areas" by Israel are divided into 16 units that make up Palestine.
