Description

GEO1_PK1998 identifies the household's province within Pakistan in 1998. Provinces are the first level administrative units of the country. A GIS map (in shapefile format), corresponding to GEO1_PK1998 can be downloaded from the GIS Boundary files page in the IPUMS International web site.

Comparability — General

The spelling of Baluchistan changed to Balochistan and Sind changed to Sindh. The changes in these two names have been reflected in the 1998 sample.

The 1998 sample excludes the Federally Administered Tribal Areas and Northern Areas (Gilgit-Baltistan).
