Description
GEO3_SN2002 identifies the household's Commune, arrondissement, or village within Senegal in 2002. Commune, arrondissement, or village are the third level administrative units of the country, after regions and departments. A GIS map (in shapefile format), corresponding to GEO3_SN2002 can be downloaded from the GIS Boundary files page in the IPUMS International web site.

Comparability — General
Commune, arrondissement, or villages with populations less than 20,000 (based on the most recent sample year) were regionalized (combined) with neighboring townships within the same departments to create units with populations greater than 20,000.
