Description
GEO2_VN identifies the householdâs district within Vietnam from 2009 to 2019. Districts are the second level administrative units of the country, after provinces. A GIS map (in shapefile format), corresponding to GEO2_VN can be downloaded from the GIS Boundary files page in the IPUMS International web site

Comparability — General
Where boundaries changed over time, units were harmonized to create units with boundaries that remain stable over time. Boundary changes for GEO2_VN are too numerous to list here, but users should be aware that there were changes over time. Districts with populations less than 20,000 (based on the most recent sample year) were regionalized (combined) with neighboring districts within the same province to create units with populations greater than 20,000.
GEO2_VN is only available for the 2009 and 2019 samples. IPUMS does not have data on 1999 districts. IPUMS has data on 1989 districts, but no labels that match our data.
