Comparability — General
Note that the Nigeria sample of 2009 is a household survey. The sample followed a two-stage, replicated and rotable design in which enumeration areas (EAs) demarcated for the 1991 Population Census served as the primary sampling units and households as the secondary sampling units. EAs are very low level geographic units in Nigeria. 30 EAs per state were randomly selected. In each EA, 15 households were selected randomly from a list of all households in the EA. In total, 450 households where selected for interview per state. Total, 16650 households from 1,110 EAs were selected for interview. The selected EAs were distributed across urban and rural areas.
Local Government Areas with populations less than 20,000 (based on the most recent sample year) were regionalized (combined) with neighboring LGAs within the same states to create units with populations greater than 20,000.
