Description
GEO1_PT1981 identifies the household's sub-region within Portugal in 1981. Sub-regions are the first level administrative units of the country. Sub-regions follow the geographic divisions of the Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics (NUTS). They are statistical rather than administrative units, composed of municipalities in Portugal. A GIS map (in shapefile format), corresponding to GEO1_PT1981 can be downloaded from the GIS Boundary files page in the IPUMS International web site.
