Comparability — General

MORTFAT is comparable apart from universe differences. Universe differences are significant for a number of samples that only asked respondents above or below a certain age.

Comparability — Burkina Faso [top]

The universe includes persons under age 30 only.

Comparability — Cameroon [top]

There are minor universe differences across samples.

Comparability — Guinea [top]

In 2014, the universe includes only persons younger than 18 years old.

Comparability — Indonesia [top]

The age universe is persons younger than 15 for the 1995 sample, while the 1976 sample includes all persons.

Comparability — Kenya [top]

The 1989 sample universe is slightly different than for other years.

Comparability — Liberia [top]

Although the 2008 enumeration form indicates that this question was to have been asked of persons age 10-24 only, it appears to have been asked of all persons. No instructions are available for this sample.

Comparability — Malawi [top]

The age universe is 20 and under in 1998 and 18 and under in 2008. The 2008 sample also excludes visitors on census day.

Comparability — Rwanda [top]

The universe changes significantly. Only persons age 25 and under answered the question in 2002. There were no age restrictions in the 1991 sample. In 2012, only persons age 17 and under answered the question.

Comparability — Senegal [top]

The universe in the 1988 sample includes all persons, but it is restricted to residents in ordinary households in 2013.

Comparability — South Africa [top]

The universe includes all persons in the 2001 and 2016 samples, but only persons in private households in 1996 and 2007.

Comparability — Tanzania [top]

The universe for the 2002 sample is persons in private households while the universe for the 2012 sample is all persons.
