Comparability — General
MORTMOT is comparable apart from universe differences. Most countries specified that only biological mothers were to be considered, and we assume this is the correct interpretation for the other samples as well.
Universe differences are significant for a number of samples that only asked respondents above or below a certain age.

Comparability — Burkina Faso [top]
The universe includes persons under age 30 only.
Comparability — Cambodia [top]
The universe of respondents differs between census years.
Comparability — Cameroon [top]
There are universe differences across samples.
Comparability — El Salvador [top]
This information is only available for the 1992 sample.
Comparability — Guinea [top]
The universe in the 2014 sample includes only persons under age 18.
Comparability — Indonesia [top]
The age universe is persons younger than 15 for the 1995 sample, while the 1976 sample includes all persons.
Comparability — Kenya [top]
The 1989 sample universe is slightly different than for other years.
Comparability — Liberia [top]
Although the 2008 enumeration form indicates that this question was to have been asked of persons age 10-24 only, it appears to have been asked of all persons. No instructions are available for this sample.
Comparability — Malawi [top]
The age universe is 20 and under in 1998 and 18 and under in 2008. The 2008 sample also excludes visitors on census day.
Comparability — Mozambique [top]
Persons under age 5 are excluded from 1997 but included in 2007.
Comparability — Nicaragua [top]
This information is only available for the 1971 sample.
Comparability — Rwanda [top]
The universe changes significantly. Only persons age 25 and under answered the question in 2002. There were no age restrictions in the 1991 sample. In 2012, only persons age 17 and under answered the question.
Comparability — Senegal [top]
The universe in the 1988 sample includes all persons, but it is restricted to residents in ordinary households in 2013.
Comparability — South Africa [top]
The universe includes all persons in 2001 and 2016, but only persons in private households in 1996, 2007 and 2011.
Comparability — Tanzania [top]
Only persons in private households were asked the question in 2002. The 1988 sample does not include collective households, so the universe is effectively the same between the 1988 and 2002 samples.
The universe for the 2012 sample is all persons.
Comparability — Togo [top]
The information is available for only 2010. The Universe is resident persons.
Comparability — Uganda [top]
The universe in the 1991 and 2014 samples includes all persons, but only persons 74 years old or younger in 2002.

The universe includes persons under age 18 only.
