Description
EBPLNT2 indicates the NUTS2 region of Europe in which the person was born. The Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics (NUTS) is a standard administrative division of the European Union, and was developed by the EU. NUTS2 identifies intermediate territorial units: the second level within countries.
EBPLNT2 only identifies regions within the person's country of residence; it does not identify birthplaces of international migrants.
The code labels include the standard code for the NUTS2 system and the name of the NUTS2 region, separated by a slash.

Comparability — General
EBPLNT2 is available for all the samples of France, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia and Spain; and certain samples of Ireland, Greece, Switzerland, and Turkey.
Larger sub-national units for birthplace are available in EBPLNT1, and smaller units in EBPLNT3.
Comparability — France [top]
The 1999 sample identifies Overseas Departments. For comparability with other samples, these are coded to "foreign country."
This variable is not available in the 2006 and 2011 samples.
Comparability — Ireland [top]
The variable is comparable across the Ireland samples apart from a minor universe difference.
Comparability — Romania [top]
The variable is comparable across Romanian samples aside from boundary changes that may have occurred. In 1977, the counties of Calarasi and Giurgiu were not yet separated from Ialomita and Ilfov. Thus, the NUTS2 units RO31 and RO32 are not fully comparable between 1977 and the latter samples.
Comparability — Spain [top]
In 1991, persons born in Ceuta, Melilla and other Spanish territories are reported in a single category (integrated as ES63 / Ciudad Autónoma de Ceuta + ES64 / Ciudad Autónoma de Melilla + Other Spanish territories). In the other samples, Ceuta and Melilla are reported separately for all persons, and other territories are not identified.
