Comparability — General
Most of the age groups in AGE2 are 5-year intervals. The Israel 1983 sample has inconsistent groupings for ages in the teens and early twenties. The groupings are not consistent for Italy 2011 for categories under 15 years old.

All other samples are fully consistent.The samples for Israel (1972, 1983, 1995), 2016 Ireland, 2001 Italy, Palestine, the Netherlands, Slovenia, and the Slovak Republic only reported grouped ages. The 1971-2006 Ireland, 2011 Italy, and 2014 Morocco samples report some ages in intervals and others in single years.
All other samples in AGE2 offer single years of age in AGE. The AGE variable also contains the data for the samples in AGE2, coded to the mid-points of the intervals.
The 2001 United Kingdom and 2010 Finland samples grouped ages incompatibly with AGE2. The U.K. categories are preserved in AGE3, where they are harmonized with the 1991 sample from that country. The 2010 Finland sample age categories are coded to mid-points of the intervals in AGE.
AGE2 is top-coded at age 85+, but some samples have top-codes at ages of 75 or 80.

Comparability — Egypt [top]
The 1996 sample is top-coded at 98+ years; 2006 at 99+ years. The 1996-2006 samples appear to underreport babies under age one.

The 1961 sample is top-coded at 75+.
Comparability — Ireland [top]
In the 1971-2006 samples, age is reported in single years up to 19, and thereafter is recorded in 5-year age groups. The single years of age are also recorded in the variable AGE. In 2016, age is reported in 5-year intervals.
Comparability — Israel [top]
The data in the 1972, 1983, and 1995 samples are top-coded at age 80+. The 1983 sample has inconsistent groupings for ages in the teens and early twenties.
Comparability — Italy [top]
The 2011 sample has inconsistent groupings for categories under 15 years old and is top-coded at 75+.
Comparability — Laos [top]
The 2005 sample is top-coded at 80+ years.
