MIG1ALT_P_CL indicates the person's province of previous residence in 1960.

Click on the Source Variables tab for information on place of residence for each sample year. Source variables may contain more geographic unit detail but are not suitable for cross-temporal comparison.

Comparability — General

Chile reorganized between 1970 and 1982. MIG1_5_CL reflects provinces in Chile from 1982 to 2002 samples.

The variables is similar to, but different from MIG1_5_CL and MIG1ALT_5_CL, which refer to province of residence five years prior to the census. The geographic classification of provinces changed in 1974, and is not directly comparable to the system in MIG1_5_CL.
