Description
MIG1_P_RW indicates the person's province of previous residence within Rwanda.
Click on the Source Variables tab for information on place of residence for each sample year. Source variables may contain more geographic unit detail but are not suitable for cross-temporal comparison.
Comparability — General
Where boundaries changed over time, units were harmonized to create units with boundaries that remain stable over time.
- The province of Umutara formed out of parts of Byumba and Kibungo.
- The boundary of Kigali-Ville changed in 1996 such that it acquired parts of Kigali Ngali. Kigali Ngali also expanded its borders and acquired parts of Kibango.
Note that the 2012 sample is not included in MIG1_P_RW. In 2006, the twelve provinces of Rwanda were abolished and replaced with five provinces with entirely different boundaries.
