B) Geographic characteristics

Question 9: habitual residency in March 1968

1. How to ask the question:
Ask this question for all persons aged five (5) or older: "What municipality were you living in five years ago?"

2. How to record the answer:
Mark an "X" in box 1, "here," if the place of residence in March 1968 is the same as the place of residence on the census date. Leave the spaces corresponding to municipality and department blank.

a. If the person being enumerated was born in another municipality within the country, ask the name of the municipality and department where the person was living and write the names in the appropriate spaces.

b. If the person was living abroad, ask the name of the country and write it in the appropriate space.

B. Second block: geographical characteristics (for all persons)

The questions relating to geographical characteristics are designed to study internal and international migration of the population.

It is desired to find out the total number of migrants and the patterns of these movements as well as the principal characteristics of this population.


Question 11: place of usual residence in February, 1976

1. How to formulate the question

In which municipality and department or country did you reside at the time of the earthquake of February 1976? (Only for those 5 years of age and older).

2. How to record the data

If the place of usual residence at the time of the earthquake of February, 1976 was the same as the place of usual residence at the time of the Census, the enumerator will circle "1. here", leaving the spaces for municipality and department or country blank.

a. If the enumerated person resided in another municipality, different from the current place of usual residence, the name of the municipality of birth and the corresponding name of the department is requested and recorded in the spaces provided.

b. If the enumerated person was born in another country, the name of the country and the year of arrival are recorded in the spaces provided.

If the municipality of permanent residence in November, 1990 is the same as the one the person was residing in at the time of the census, mark an X for option 00, "in this municipality," and leave the rest of the question set blank.

Section 7: Individual characteristics

This section records individual information for a maximum of ten people - those listed in section 6, "total number of persons in the household." If there are more than ten people in the census household use as many additional forms as necessary.

Person number: In the grid spaces on the upper left side of the form, write the number that corresponds to the person according to the order from the list of persons in section VI. The head of household is number 1.

Name: In the appropriate space, write the name of each of the persons who make up the household according to the order in which they appear on the list in question 3 of section VI. Begin with the head of household and continue writing according to the order established.

Information supplied by respondent: This is when the person interviewed gives information about his/her own self. Fill in the appropriate oval according to the information you receive.

Questions 1-11 should be asked for all permanent residents of the household in the dwelling.

6. Permanent residence in December 1996 (peace treaty)
Ask, "Which municipality and department was the person a permanent resident of in December 1996? (Peace treaty)"

If the person is less than 6 years old, fill in the oval for "not yet born."

If the person is older than 6 years and was living in the municipality in which the interview is taking place, fill in the oval for "here" only.
