Description
MIG1_1_PT indicates the person's subregion of residence one year ago within Portugal using the Eurostat NUTS-3 classification, slightly modified.
Click on the Source Variables tab for information on place of residence for each sample year. Source variables may contain more geographic unit detail but are not suitable for cross-temporal comparison.
Comparability — General
There are no comparability issues. In each sample the period of reference is somewhat more than one year. The censuses asked for the person's place of residence on December 31 two calendar years prior to the census. Since the censuses were taken in March or April, the variable actually records residence roughly 15 months ago.
Place of residence five years ago is available for the 1991, 2001, and 2011 Portugal samples in MIG1_5_PT, and for seven years ago in the 1981 sample in MIG1_7_PT
