Most IPUMS data transformations are performed using variable harmonization tables that specify how each value in the source data is recoded. Some variables also require programming logic in addition to the harmonization table. The harmonization documents for this variable are:
LANGCR indicates the language the person was taught to speak as a child. The question was only asked of persons living in indigenous territories.

Non-indigenous languages are specified as Spanish or non-Spanish in 2000, but are not distinguished in 2011.
The universe differs between samples: persons living in an indigenous territory in 2000 versus persons who self-identify as indigenous in 2011.
