Description
EDUCMM indicates the person's educational attainment in Myanmar in terms of the level of schooling completed and the grades within that level.
Comparability — General
The education system in Myanmar changed from the former 4-4-2 system to the current 5-4-2 system. This means that there are respondents who attended school during different systems of education in Myanmar. The former system consisted of 10 standards (4-year primary school, 4-year middle school, and 2-year high school) while the current education system is composed of 11 grades (5-year primary school, 4-year middle school, and 2-year high school).
The 2014 sample recorded a person's educational attainment according only to the current 5-4-2 system. During enumeration, educational attainment for persons who completed education in the former system was converted to its equivalent in the current system.
Higher education can be pursued after completion of high school. A bachelor's degree requires three years to complete, postgraduate diplomas require one or two additional years to complete, master's degrees last two years, and doctoral degrees require at least four years of study.
In 2014, persons currently attending school report their previous level/grade completed, with the exception of those "currently attending college".
