Comparability — General

BTHCERT broadly identifies whether or not a person was issued a birth certificate, or their birth was recorded in an official registry. Individual countries may provide further information on types of birth certificates, or whether the birth certificate is from another country.

The universe of some samples is restricted only to respondents under 18 years old or children.

Comparability — Brazil [top]

The input source variable provides greater information about the type of birth certificate issued.

Comparability — Malawi [top]

The input source variable provides greater information about if the birth certificate was seen or unseen.

Comparability — Mexico [top]

The input source variables specify whether the birth certificate was provided by Mexico or a foreign country.

Comparability — Peru [top]

The 2017 sample provides further information about whether the respondent holds a Peruvian national identity card or foreign identification cards. Persons holding a Peruvian national identity card were coded as "yes", while people only holding foreign identification cards were coded as "unknown". This explains the different frequencies associated with the "yes" category between the 2007 and 2017 samples.

Comparability — Senegal [top]

The source input variable specifies between persons holding an official birth certificate and those with only supplementary documentation. Both groups are coded as "yes".

Comparability — Uganda [top]

The input source variable provides greater information about the type of birth certificate issued.

Comparability — Zambia [top]

The input source variable provides greater information about if the birth certificate was seen or unseen by the enumerator.
