6. State or country of birth

In this section the information of the people who inhabit the dwelling, like the sex, age, level of studies, income, among others, is obtained.
Before requesting the information for each person, copy all the names in the spaces designated for them, and for each person start with the phrase: "Now I'm going to ask about (mention the name of the person you previously noted)", so that the informer knows about whom you will be asking the information.

6. Entity or country of birth
Circle code 1 if the person was born in the same federal entity where you are performing the interview.
Circle code 3 if the person was born in the United States of America.
When the person was born in a different state than that of the interview, or in a country that is not the United States of America, write the name of the state or country on the line.
If the response is the name of a municipality or delegation, neighborhood or locality, investigate to which state of the Mexican Republic or to which country he/she belongs and register it. In case the exact information is not obtained, record what the informer tells you in the corresponding line.

If the person tells you that he/she was born in Mexico or Mexico City, ask that he/she clarifies if it corresponds to the federal district or the state of Mexico.

Circle the code 1 when the person was born in the same entity where you are conducting the interview and go to question 13 "Speak indigenous language". If the person was born in the United States of America, then circle the code 3.
Write on the line the name of the state or country where the person was born if he/she is in a different state at the moment of the interview or if he/she was born in a different country from the United States of America.
If the answer is the name of a municipality or delegation, colony, or locality, ask the state of Mexico or the country and record it on the line. Do not use abbreviations. In the case of obtaining imprecise information, record the information received on the corresponding line.
When the informant answers he/she was born in Mexico or Mexico City, ask him/her to clarify if it is the federal district or the state of Mexico and record it. If the person was born in the United States or in another country, continue with the question 12 "Nationality"; otherwise, go to question 13 "Speak indigenous language".
In this section, information is obtained for each of the people living in the housing unit.
Before requesting data for each resident, copy the details from Section II. List people and general data, their names, gender, and age, and write them down in the spaces provided. Do not forget to correct the person number when using more than one questionnaire.

For the respondent to know who to provide the information about, start with the sentence: "Now I'm going to ask you about...", and mention the name of the person you previously wrote down.
Apply questions 1 through 11 for all the people who are habitual residents, including children, as well as elderly people.
3. State or country of birth
The purpose of the question is to identify the state of the Mexican Republic or the country where the person was born.

This question applies to all habitual residents. Read the question, listen to the answer, and record.
Circle code 1 when the person was born in the same state where you are conducting the interview. If the person was born in the United States of America, circle code 3.
If the person was born in a state other than that of the interview (code 2) or in a country (code 4) other than the United States of America, circle the appropriate code and write the name of the state or country on the line.

If the answer is the name of a municipality or city hall, neighborhood, or locality, find out to which state of the Mexican Republic or to which country it belongs and write it down on the corresponding line. Do not use abbreviations.
If even after making the pertinent questions you obtained unclear information, record verbatim what the respondent says on the designated line for this purpose.
When they answer that they were born in Mexico, ask them to clarify whether they were born in Mexico City or the State of Mexico and record their answer.
