Description
BPL1_CN indicates the person's province of birth in China. Birthplace province codes for BPL1_CN are compatible with codes for GEO1_CN.
Click on the Source Variables tab for information on place of residence for each sample year. Source variables may contain more geographic unit detail but are not suitable for cross-temporal comparison.
Comparability — General
BPL1_CN is only available for the 2000 sample. In 2000, the original responses included options for birthplace in the "same county or city" or in "other county or city within the same province". For BPL1_CN, these responses are assigned to their current province of residence.
Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan are not separately identified from locations abroad.
