Comparability — General

Only the U.S., Puerto Rico, and Iran samples identify central air systems. The U.S., Brazil, Fiji 2007, Panama 2010, Thailand 1990 and 2000, and Egypt 2006 samples indicate the number of units or the number of rooms served, but the maximum number of units or rooms recorded varies by sample.

The 2013 census asked whether the household owns an air conditioner that is in functional condition.

Comparability — Brazil [top]

In Brazil, the responses indicate either the number of air conditioning units or the number of rooms served by a central system.

Comparability — Cambodia [top]

The 2013 sample recorded the number of air conditioners (top-coded at five or more). Information on the number of fans was asked separately and it is not harmonized in this variable.
