Comparability — General
The main comparability issue refers to the types of boats considered by each sample. Some samples only identify motorboats, while others ask about canoes, traditional boats, or yachts.
Some samples count the number of available boats, but these are top-coded differently. Those that do not indicate the number of boats use the code for "have boat, number unspecified." The variable, as a whole, is top-coded at 2 or more boats.
Most questionnaires did not explicitly require ownership of the boat, asking instead whether one was at the household's disposal. Some samples include personal boats that are also used in a commercial capacity.
