Comparability — General

MOTORCYCLE comprises different types of motorized two-wheeled vehicles, such as motorcycles, mopeds, scooters, or similar.

Some samples count the number of available motorcycles, and these are top-coded differently. See the codes page for the maximum values in each sample. The variable, as a whole, is top-coded at 2 or more motorcycles. The samples that do not indicate the number of motorcycles use the code for "have motorcycle, number unspecified."

Most censuses did not explicitly require ownership of the motorcycle, asking instead whether one was at the household's disposal. When known, information about the working condition of the motorcycle is specified. Some samples consider personal motorcycles that are also used in a commercial capacity.
