Codes and Frequencies
Description
DHS_IPUMSI_TG provides geographic codes for Togo that match those in the DHS and IPUMS-International databases. This variable can be used to link contextual area data from IPUMS-DHS to IPUMS-International or vice versa. The codes in DHS_IPUMSI_GH indicate the major administrative unit in which the household was enumerated or surveyed.

Comparability — General
The units in DHS_IPUMSI_TG are harmonized across DHS and IPUMS-International samples to account for changing boundaries in the major administrative level of geography. The time span for DHS samples are 1998 to 2013 and corresponds to the census samples from 1970 to 2010 in IPUMS-International.
There were some boundary changes for Togo:
- Lomé and Maritime are combined. In the DHS 1988 survey, Maritime includes the capital city of Lomé. In 1998, Lomé is separate from the Maritime region. For the 2013 survey, the Maritime region excludes the commune of Lomé and the urban areas in the Golfe prefecture.
- Kara expanded its borders, absorbing parts of Centrale
- Centrale absorbed parts of Plateaux
