Description
AGESTRUCT2 gives the estimated age of the structure.

Comparability — General
AGESTRUCT2 combines data from samples that reported the age of structure or the year the structure was built. The data of both types were sometimes reported in single years or, more often, as intervals. When the underlying data are reported as intervals, they are coded in AGESTRUCT2 to the midpoints of the intervals rounding down.

For a similar variable on age of structure in which the values are not reported in year intervals, see AGESTRUCT1. For the year in which the structure was built, see BUILTYR, which codes the intervals to the most recent year, not the midpoints.

Comparability — Nepal [top]
In 2011, the age of structure refers to the first construction date, not to later additions. The data in AGESTRUCT2 has a top-code at 200+ years, but additional (older age) intervals are available in the unharmonized source variable in 2011.

The underlying data report year of construction in intervals. The top code is 32 years or older (before 1940).
Comparability — Pakistan [top]
The underlying data report year of construction in intervals. The lowest category is "under construction." The top code is low: 11 or more years.
Comparability — Panama [top]
The underlying data report year of construction in intervals for 1990, 2000 and 2010, and in single years in 1980. The top code is consistent across samples but very low: 11 or more years.

The underlying data report year of construction in single years for structures built in the previous 4 years and in intervals for older structures. The top-code is 40+ years for all samples.

The underlying data report year of construction in both intervals and in single years. The top-code differs across years: 61+ years in 1978, 71+ years in 1988, and 84+ years in 2002.

The underlying data for 1977 report date of construction in single years, top-coded at 177. The 2002 data report age of structure in single years top-coded at 200 or older. The 2011 data report age of structure in single years through 40 and intervals thereafter, with a top-code at 93 or older.

The underlying data report year of construction in intervals. The top code is 21 years or older.
Comparability — Spain [top]
The data report date of construction in single years for dwellings constructed up to 10 years before the census. For dwellings constructed more than 10 years before the census, the date of construction is reported in intervals. The data are top-coded at 112 years. The 2001 sample includes collective dwellings; the 2011 sample does not.
Comparability — Suriname [top]
The underlying data report year of construction in single years until 7 years and intervals afterwards. The top code is 33 years or older.
Comparability — Switzerland [top]
The underlying data report year of construction in intervals. In 2011, the interval 2011-2015 is classified as building constructed less than one year prior. The top code varies across the Switzerland samples.

The underlying data report date of construction in single years through 4 and in intervals thereafter. The top code is 21 years or older.
Comparability — Trinidad and Tobago [top]
The underlying data report year of construction in both intervals and in single years. The top code differs across years: 20+ years in 1970-1990, 11+ years in 2000, and 31+ years in 2011.

The underlying data for 1960 to 2000 report age of dwelling in intervals. The 2010, 2015, and 2020 data report date of construction in single years for dwellings constructed on 2005 or later; for dwellings constructed on 2004 or before, the date of construction is reported in intervals. The top codes differ.

The underlying data report age of the structure in intervals. The top code is older than 30 years. The data indicate the age since construction or since the last major restoration, defined as a "substantial alteration of the structure" that causes an increase of the property value.
