Description

This variable indicates the type of work the person performed in the seven days before 10 October 2001 by a two-digit level. Respondents were asked to describe their occupation in two or more words, for example, street trader, cattle farmer, primary school teacher, etc. Coding was done on the basis of the second edition of the South African Standard Classification of Occupations (SASCO), which is, in turn, based on the United Nations' International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO --1988).
