Description

This variable indicates whether any member of the household left Malawi during the last 10 years (from 1998 to 2008). There are no not-in-universe values in the data, but the lack of any households classified as "Hospital, hotel, or lodge" (see MW2008A_0027) that report an emigrant member suggests that these households may have been excluded from the questions on emigration. For this reason, we recoded households with this type from "No" to "NIU (not in universe)".
