MIG1ALT_P_RW indicates the person's province of previous residence within Rwanda in 2012.

Comparability — General
This variable is available for the 2012 sample only. In 2006, the twelve provinces of Rwanda were abolished and replaced with five provinces with entirely different boundaries. For district of previous residence, see MIGRW2. For country of residence of international migrants, see MIGCTRYP (Country of previous residence).

For persons who were living in Rwanda before August 2012, indicate the district name of their previous residence in P09. For districts which have been split during the restructuring, probe to find the actual district of residence in August 2012 and write the name by which it is currently known.
A person who may have been absent from home temporarily for some reason such as visiting relatives or in hospital, or who may have been overseas on a visit of less than six months, should be shown where they normally lived before August, 2012.
If the person was living in another country before August 2012, use the name pertaining to the specific country.
