Description

INCHH reports the total gross income of a household in Israel. The data are coded to the mid-points of the intervals, but the labels provide the explicit income range represented by each code.

Comparability — General

The period of reference differs between samples. It was income for the previous year in 1972, for the month of April in 1983, and for the month of September in 1995. The 2008 sample also includes annual household income.

All values are as reported in the census year; they are not adjusted for inflation or devaluation.

Each sample has different intervals for income level, using different currency units. The sheqel replaced the lira at a rate of 1 sheqel = 10 lira in 1980. After suffering from high inflation, the sheqel was replaced by the new sheqel in 1985 at a rate of 1 new sheqel = 1000 "old" sheqalim. See the codes page.

The top income categories in each sample are coded to the lowest level in the category (e.g. 25,000+ is coded to 25,000).

The 1995 data include a large number of missing responses.
