(7) Predominant type of heating:
[] Individual stove [Einzelofen]
[] Central heating serving dwelling (floor)
[] Building central heating
[] Distance (block) heating
[] Other heating

(9) Predominantly used heating source:

Only for oven heating (single oven), dwelling central heating (level heating), and house central heating in building with one or more dwellings.
Only one response please.

[] Wood
[] Coal, coke, briquette
[] Electricity
[] City or natural gas
[] Liquid gas
[] Other heating sources
[] (Fuel) oil

Is an oil tank available for the residence?

[] Yes
[] No

How many liters does the oil tank hold?

[] Up to 100
[] 101-200
[] 201-300
[] More than 300

(10) Other possible heating sources:
Only for oven heating (single oven), dwelling central heating (level heating) and house central heating in buildings with one or more dwellings.

Does the type of heating marked in question 7 also operate with other heating sources?

[] Yes
[] No

If answer is yes
(Only one response please.)

[] Wood
[] Coal, coke [Koks], briquette
[] (Fuel) oil
[] Town or natural gas
[] Liquid gas
[] Other heating sources

(7) The predominant type of heating is that which heats the majority of the rooms. "Long-distance heating" should not only be the response concerning supply from a "long-distance heating plant", but also in the case when a "block heating system" supplies multiple buildings of an apartment complex with heat. "Other heating" is chosen for a solar heating system, for example.

(9) This question is only to be answered by those with oven heating (single ovens), dwelling central heating (level heating) and house central heating in buildings with one or more dwelling. With regards to house central heating in a larger building and long-distance heating, it is to be supposed as a rule, namely that the dwelling occupant/ owner does not know the type of heating fuel.

(10) Here every heating fuel should be noted that--as long as it is technically possible--the chosen heating from Question 7 appears on the first line in consideration, if in the case the chosen ordinarily used heating fuel in Question 9 is not available (i.e. transposition to a coke [Koks] heating due to oil deficiency).

7. Main source of heating:
[] Distance (block) heating, also community heating
[] Building central heating
[] Gas convection heaters
[] Built-in electric unit (permanently installed heater)
[] Central heating serving the dwelling (floor)
[] Individual stove

Fuel most used for heating:
Only fill in if there is a central heating serving the apartment or an individual stove. Only mark one fuel, please.

[] Wood
[] Coal, coke, briquettes
[] City gas, natural gas
[] Liquid gas
[] Fuel oil
[] Electricity (portable room heater)
[] Other fuel

Questionnaire instructions view entire document:  text  image

7, Primary type of heating:
The primary type of heating is that was used to heat the majority of rooms during the main heating period (last winter). "Distance heating should be marked not only in the case of heat supplied by a distance heating system but also if a block heating plant supplies several buildings of a building complex with heat.
If a single family home is centrally heated, and the question on heating was already answered on the building questionnaire (building questionnaire questions 18, 19), only "house central heating" should be marked on the housing unit questionnaire; the question on fuel must not be answered on the housing unit questionnaire.
Electric heating (permanently connected heaters) should also be marked e.g. in the case of electric wall, ceiling or floor heating.

Enumerator guideline:
Please note that in the first part of the question only one mark should be made. If "house central heating (heating serving one floor)" or "individual stove" was marked, then in the second part the primarily used fuel should be marked.

Because wood chip heating systems are more likely used for building central heating than for housing unit central heating, no separate marking option is provided for this on the housing unit questionnaire. In individual cases "other fuel" should be marked.

Purpose of the question:
This question concerns an important quality characteristic of every housing unit and also has macroeconomic meaning:
1. Which energy sources are used? In considering the average energy use and heating costs, calculations about the financial burden of certain household groups can be pursued.
2. The energy sources used have very different consequential costs in the field of environmental protection. With the advancement of environmentally friendly heating types, the taxpayers are ultimately relieved.

3. Primary type of heating
[] District heating or block heating
[] Building central heating
[] Gas convectors
[] Electric heating (permanently attached radiators)
[] Central heating system for apartment (single-story heating system)
Primary fuel used (Please mark just one fuel):

[] Wood Coal, coke, briquettes
[] Heating oil
[] Gas
[] Electricity (mobile electric heaters)
[] Other fuel

[] Individual stove(s)
Primary fuel used (Please mark just one fuel):

[] Wood Coal, coke, briquettes
[] Heating oil, fuel oil
[] Liquefied petroleum gas
[] Electricity (mobile electric heaters)
[] Other fuel

Questionnaire instructions view entire document:  text  image

3. Primary type of heating:
Explanation: The primary type of heating refers to the type used in the majority of rooms during the main heating season (last winter). "District heating or block heating" should be marked not only if the heat is provided by a district heating plant but also if a block heating plant supplies heat to several buildings within a housing complex.

If a single family home is centrally heated and if the questions on heating were already answered in the building data form (question 4), only the item "Central heating system for building" should be marked on the housing unit data form; the question regarding fuel does not need to be answered on the housing unit data form.

Electric heating (permanently attached radiators) should also be marked, for example, if there is a system for direct electric heating of floors, walls or ceilings.

The primary fuel used should only be marked if the housing unit has its own central heating or individual stove(s) heating system.

Please make sure that in the first part of the question only one mark is made ("primary type of heating").

If a housing unit is primarily heated, for example only by means of a tiled stove, during the main heating season, then "individual stove" is to be marked in question 3, even if there is also central heating in the housing unit. This should be indicated in question 1.3.

Because wood chip heating systems or the like are more likely used for house central heating than for housing unit central heating, no separate marking option is provided for this on the housing unit data form. In recurring individual cases "other fuel" should be marked.
This question concerns an important quality characteristic of every housing unit and also has macroeconomic meaning:

Which energy sources are used? In considering the average energy use and heating costs, calculations about the financial burden of certain household groups can be employed.

[p. 58]

The energy sources used have very different consequential costs in the field of environmental protection. With the advancement of environmentally friendly heating types, the taxpayers are ultimately relieved.

3.3.7 Question 9: Central heating
a) They say that one shared building has one shared installation of central heating when it is supplied, for the most part from its dwellings, by one single source of heat (one furnace for example) ; are equally considered as such the buildings using "integrated electric heating" or "central heating by hot air heating."
- Concerning the source of shared heat, it can be:
- either right to the building: in this case, check box 3 ;
- or shared among a group of buildings (generally neighboring buildings): in this case, check box 2 ;
- or shared among an important number of buildings dispersed on common territory and dependent on a communal institution or shared between districts (urban heating): in this case, check box 1.
- check box 4 in ALL other cases, even if it concerns a shared apartment building in which most of the dwellings have installations of individual central heating.
b) If you have checked boxes 2 or 3 of the main question, do not forget to specify the fuel used.

Question 9: Central Heating
1.- The case of cooperative housing [immeubles collectifs].
Cooperative housing is said to have a shared heating plant when it is fed, in most of the dwellings, by a single source of heat (a boiler, for example); buildings having integrated electric heat or forced- air heat [chauffage central par air pulsé] are considered in the same way.
[p. 17]
As for the source of shared heat [chaleur commune] it can be:
- The building's own heat. In this case, check off box number 3;
- Common to a group of buildings (generally neighboring buildings): in this case, check off box number 2 ;
- Common to a large number of buildings scattered throughout a common area depending on a common or inter- municipal establishment: in this case, check off box number 1.
Check off box number 4 in all other cases, even if it is a cooperative building in which most of the dwellings have individual central heating.
2. The case of single family houses
For a single family house with central heat, check box number 3.
However, if the heating for a group of single family houses is provided by collective heat (other than urban heat) check box 2.
3. If you have checked boxes 2 or 3 of the main question (whether it be related to a cooperative building [immeuble collectif] or a single family house, don't forget to specify the fuel used.

Question 12: Heating?

District-, block heating: dwellings of several buildings receive the heat necessary for heating from a thermal station, heating works or from a natural thermal spring

District-, block heating dwellings of several buildings get the heat necessary for heating from a thermal station, heating works or from a natural thermal spring. Question 13 should be skipped if the answer is "District-, block or thermal water heating".

Separate boiler heating of the building (i.e. for several dwellings): the dwellings of the building receive the heat from a boiler which is situated in the building or is in connection with the building.

Separate central heating for one dwelling: the supply of heat for the premises of one dwelling (one floor) or only of a building with one dwelling (detached family house) from one heating place.

Separate heating of premises means the heating of the places of the dwelling by stoves, convectors etc.

If alternative heating is in the dwelling the one used fro the rooms should be marked. The type of heating is coded as "Separate heating of premises" if the rooms of the dwelling are heated by different appliances (one of the rooms is heated with an electric heater, the other with an oven while the third with an electric heater).

If no heating in the dwelling is available question 13 should be skipped.

Question 13: Energy used for heating?

The answer is other if the energy used for the heating is natural energy e.g. solar energy, geothermic energy (with the exemption of thermal water).

If alternative/several types of heating material are used the one used for heating the rooms should be underlined. If in doubt the mostly used material should be marked.

I. Dwelling data

12. Heating
Separately for each place with convector, stove is the answer when the heating of the premises of the dwelling is provided individually.

One or more dwellings heated by boiler (central, circle) is the right answer if:

-The premises of the dwelling or a one-dwelling building is heated by one heating place or
-The dwellings in a building are heated by a boiler located in the building or in close connection with the building.
District (block) heating must be marked if more buildings receive heating from thermal power station, heating works or natural thermal spring. In case you marked this answer continue with question 14.

In case the dwelling is heated more ways, then the heating of the rooms must be considered. If the exact answer cannot be defined even in this way then the most characteristic heating must be marked.

If there is no heating in the dwelling you must continue with question 14.

30. General explanation about questions 41 through 56
Fill question 41 only for normal settled households and leave it blank for other households. But fill questions 42 to 55 also for collective households in addition to normal settled ones.
Note: For those normal settled and collective households for which you filled more than one sheet of questionnaire, fill these questions along with question 56 only on the first sheet and leave them blank on other sheets.

35. General explanation about Questions 45 through 55
Fill these questions only for those households who live in a conventional residential unit (box 1 question 44) and leave it blank for households living in other types of units.

38. Facilities and utilities, Question 47
Different types of facilities and utilities are mentioned in this question. First, ask about the existence of these facilities and utilities in the housing unit and mark either box 1 or 2 in section A. Then, ask about each facility and utility available in the unit (box 1 in section A) separately and whether the household takes advantage of it or not. If yes, mark 1 in section B, otherwise mark 2. For those facilities and utilities not available in the housing unit (box 2 in section A), leave section B blank. Note the following in order to fill this question:

- For electricity, private generators in units are not what is meant, but the electricity available to everyone is.
- For piped water, the important aspect is for the unit to have a pipeline and for the water in the pipeline to be connected to the public water network.
- For piped gas, the important aspect is for the unit to have a pipeline and for the gas in the pipeline to be connected to the public gas network.
- A central heating system, which also includes a package, is a system in which heat is produced in one defined part and is transferred from that point to the entire housing unit.
- A central air conditioning system is a system in which heat or cold air is produced in a specific part and then transferred to the entire housing unit.

Note: for electricity, central heating system, central air conditioning system and bathroom, the point is only to ask for the existence of it.

Question 4.2
Multiple responses are allowed.

Use the following definitions to answer the question appropriately:

-Centralized system: designed to heat all of the dwellings in the same building, and housed in a dedicated utility room (cellar, basement, etc.) that does not belong to any specific dwelling. This includes systems connected to public district heating networks.

-Permanent independent system: designed to heat a single dwelling and usually located inside it or nearby (e.g. a heating unit located in a dedicated room or balcony/terrace; solar panels located on the roof, etc.) and that is controlled independently.

-Individual permanent devices: not connected to a centralized or permanent independent system, but not mobile, e.g. fireplaces, individual built-in gas radiators, heat pumps, electric surface elements, stoves that burn wood, kerosene or LPG (liquid petroleum gas).

Indicate the type of fuel or energy that each heating unit runs on. Each checked box corresponds to both a unit type and the fuel or energy source that powers it. For example, check box 10 to indicate an independent system for that dwelling?s exclusive use and fueled by LPG, or check box 1 to indicate a centralized system that runs on methane or natural gas. Characteristics of the Dwelling

17. Heating of dwelling (Question 11) [p.20]
If inhabitants are using more than one way of heating, then the dominant way should be specified, that is -- covering the majority of dwelling, used more often or for longer.
Additional and supplemental heating sources (used during significant cold) shouldn't be registered.

Central heating is defined as any installation, which transports warm medium (warm water, steam or warm air) from the central production source to all rooms in a dwelling.

Collective central heating should be specified as such in the case, when installation transferring warm medium to dwelling is connected to heating plant's network, which is managed by electric heating plant, heating plant, communal or local heating plant.

An individual central heating is understood as a heating installation in a single-family building, which transports warm medium from one's own heating plant to a dwelling (dwellings) in this building, as well as in-hose installation, that is an installation located within the building, that is a fireplace or gas stove, which is located inside the building, for example in kitchen, and other rooms are heated by radiators.

While specifying an individual central heating, the type of used fuel should be determined additionally, and then such installation should be classified as follows:

- Gas central heating -- if there is a special hearing stove connected with water circuit installed, which is used to create steam and heat water in the dwelling.
- Central heating with other type of fueling -- it one of following materials is used to heat water: coke, coal, briquette, sawdust, wood or oil.
- Stove heating should be defined as using tiled stove or any moveable stove fueled with a fixed material (coal, coke, briquette, wood, sawdust, etc.) and so called, economic gas stoves. The latter ones shouldn't be confused with central gas heating. Economic gas stoves are not connected with a water circuit, as it can be observed in central gas heating installations, and warmth in the room is created by direct stove's heating.
- Electric accumulative stoves' heating should be understood as heating with 'Glow' or other tiled stoves' heating, which are equipped with additional electric heaters, and oil radiators supplied with power from a plug.

Question 10. Type of heating of the dwelling. [p. 56]

Collective central heating -- answer 1 and 2 -- this is a network supplying heat from the main source of its generation to a bigger number of dwellings and/or to other spaces in the building:

Answer 3. Individual central heating -- should be selected if the source of the heat generation is situated in a single-family building (the furnace is installed in an own boiling house in the basement, bathroom, kitchen, or there is an electrical floor heating installed) or the source of heat is situated in the vicinity of the dwelling located in a multi-family building, e.g. the furnace is installed in the kitchen, bathroom (the so-called storey heating)
Answer 4 5. Other -- should be selected if the dwelling is heated by:
The so-called economy heaters- using gas from the mains or from the bottle (these devices are not connected with the water circuit) page 27

Electrical air blowers

Electrical mobile oil-firing furnaces like a radiators.
If the inhabitants use many means of heating, the prevailing one should be determined, i.e. the one which heats the biggest part if the dwelling or it has the longest heating period. Select only one symbol.

Do not include complementary heating (e.g. additional heating by a fan heater in time of low temperatures)

7.2.2.1. Filling out the Single Dwelling questionnaire

Question 7- What is the main type of heating available in this dwelling?
[There is an image of box for question 7]
In case there is more than one type of heating device used you should choose the one that is most frequently used.
Consider central heating as a system that diffuses or distributes heat by means of a network of hot water pipes or hot air, produced by centralized heater (air conditioner, boiler, heat exchange, heat pump, etc.).
The heat recuperator can be considered as central heating or non-central heating, depending on whether or not it is connected to a system of hot-air distribution. Hence, for a heat recuperator that is installed in a fireplace, not connected to a hot-air distribution system you must choose the option "Heat Recuperator". In cases where the heat recuperator is connected to a hot-air distribution system it must be considered as central heating.
The air conditioner can also be considered as central heating or not (as mobile or fixed units).
[If the option is "none", go to question 9]

Q. 10 Means of heating

34. Record the primary heating source as follows:
Mark the box for code 1 when dwellings have heat provided by a central power station, power plant, etc., through hot water distribution points for central heating and domestic hot water, usually to a large number of housing units, with radiators used to transfer the heat to the spaces in the dwelling. Included in this code are the district's heating centers (local heating).

Codes 2, 3or 4 will be marked , depending on the situation, when dwellings are heated by their own domestic system, that is installations for heating built in the buildings (steam, hot water) and a system for passing the thermal energy to all rooms inside the building. Include block heating systems in these codes.

When the domestic heating system uses geothermal water, code 4 (liquid fuel) will be checked.

Codes 5, 6 or 7 will be marked to indicate the type of fuel when stoves are used for heating.

An x mark will be recorded in the box for code when the dwelling uses electrical radiators or any different type of heating (air conditioning, etc.), other than those mentioned above.

When a dwelling has several different heating systems, recorded only the primary heating source.

The main type of heating of the dwelling (item 16)

37. The recording of the main way of heating will be done according to the situation:

-- the mark x will be written on code box 1 when the dwellings have the heating provided by central power stations, plants, etc., through hot water distribution points for central heating and domestic hot water, and usually are transferring the heat to the spaces to be heated -- radiators -- usually to a large number of housing units. To this code will be registered the district's heating centers (local heating);
-- the mark x will be recorded, according to the situation, in the boxes of the codes 2,3,4 - when the dwellings are heated by own domestic system, that is installations for heating built in the buildings (steam, hot water) and a system for passing the thermal energy to all rooms inside the building, depending of the type of fuels used (natural gas, solid fuel, liquid fuel).
[p. 30]

Particular situation:

-- when the domestic heating systems are using the geothermal waters the code 4 will be recorded.
-- the mark x will be written on the boxes of the codes 5, 6 or 7 when the stoves are used for heating, according to the type of fuels;
-- the mark x will be recorded on the code box 8, when the electrical radiators , or any different type of heating, other than those mentioned above are used in the dwelling.
When the dwellings have several different heating systems, only one type of heating (the one used the most) will be recorded.
To the item 16.2 the enumerator will record the mark x according to the kind of answer: code 1 when the dwelling has air conditioning or code 2 when it does not.

F. Information about the private home

Once the dwelling part is finished, you will ask questions referring to the Census home.

Remember that in a dwelling inhabited by more than one private home you should fill out as many documents as there are homes.

Write in each one of the documents the information about each of the homes. You should not repeat information in Section E. Information of the private dwelling.

Cancel this section upon enumerating the second and following homes that share this dwelling.

4. Sources of energy

4.2. System of heating

Do you use any means of heating your rooms?

Central heating: It is the system of heating in which the release of heat (combustion) is centralized in one place but many rooms are heated by means of radiators, radiant heating, or similar means. The heat is transported through an agent, generally water.

To this respect it interests us to distinguish when it is common with other homes, for example: in apartment buildings, from when it is unique to the home.

Stove: Appliance that releases heat into a room where it is found.

Conditioner: Electric appliance that heats or cools the air of a room.

MV12. Does this household use any means of heating? Mention the main type.

This question is interested in finding out the main means of heating used by the household. In the case that the interviewee declares more than one, identify the principle one, that's to say the one used the majority of the time. The stove includes the heating fan, quartz, radiator oil or panel, wood stove, etc. This question about the main means of heating is complemented with one about the main fuel, in order to collect more complete information on this topic.
