The box referring to the color of the person being enumerated should be marked with an X. The color Yellow applies only to persons of the yellow ethnic race (Japanese, Chinese, etc. and their descendants). It does not apply to persons who have yellowish skin, such as those who suffer from malaria, hookworm disease, etc.
Only those aborigines who live in native villages or reservations [posto indÃgena] should be indicated as "Indian." For aborigines who live outside native villages or reservations [postos indÃgenas], Box Number 27 (Brown) should be marked. Those who declare themselves mulattos, civilized Indians and mixed white-and-Indian] [cabloclos], mixed black and Indian [cafuzos], etc. should also be indicated for Box 27 (Brown).
