HHDONATE identifies households that were donated during the IPUMS data editing process.

Comparability — General

Reasons for donation vary across samples, but are typically fragments of households or otherwise structurally corrupt records. Donation is carried out through a hot-deck allocation procedure that finds the most proximate household that shares key characteristics with the household being replaced.
