EDUCAM indicates the person's level of educational attainment in Armenia in terms of the level of schooling completed.

Comparability — General

The education system in Armenia is organized following a 4-5-3, with 4 grades in elementary, 5 grades in basic, and 3 grades in secondary.

• Prior to 2001, the educational system in Armenia was organized following a 3-5-2, with 3 grades in elementary, 5 grades in basic and 2 grades in secondary.
• In 2001, the primary (elementary plus basic education) education was extended to nine years.
• In 2006, the general education (primary plus secondary education) was extended to twelve years, which implied an additional grade in secondary.

Secondary education has a general and a professional track. General secondary refers to those who graduated from secondary. Professional secondary could be pursued after basic education or general secondary; its duration is between two to three years after the primary level, or one to one and a half years after the general secondary level.

Tertiary education includes middle professional, higher education (university) and graduate studies. Middle professional refers to persons who graduated from colleges and similar institutions and obtained a technical degree. Higher education includes both bachelor and master degrees from universities and similar institutions. The Armenia 2001 sample also identifies incomplete higher education. Graduate education refers to doctorate degrees and other equivalent. This education level is disaggregated in 2011 into postgraduate professional, candidate of science and doctor of science.
